Extending the flavour

Extending the caves is a sign of our success.

The caves in Kaltbach were originally 50 metres in length. After being gradually extended over the decades, the cave complex now runs for a total of over two kilometres. Today it is possible to store up to 156,000 cheeses in the caves.

The large-scale addition of 1300 metres in 2008 to 2010 is helping to deal with the growing demand for KALTBACH speciality cheeses. All in all, some 32,000 cubic metres of solid sandstone were removed during the extension work.
